Links to Fun Thanksgiving Day Ideas

I don't remember exactly what foods we had last year at my family's Thanksgiving dinner. But I do remember playing baseball with my six little nieces and close to baseball as you can get with six kids ages 7 and under. My family likes to prepare food in the morning, then my mom tends to send everyone out on hike or to play baseball or dodgeball on the highschool field while she finishes everything up. Even though the food is the most typical trademark of Thanksgiving day, it's fun to also have traditions that get everyone active and hungry. Hunger is the best spice, after all.

Here are some ideas of things to do in Utah County that might become your family's new favorite Thanksgiving tradition.

Orem's Earn your Turkey 4-Mile Run

Run a Turkey Trot in the surrounding Salt Lake area

Play tennis, baseball, dodgeball, or football at Kiwanis Park in Provo.

Bundle up and go for a hike on any of these trails nearby.

Take the kids to play on a playground at any of these parks.

Ride bikes along the Provo River Parkway.

Also, check out the Utah County Food $ense Pinterest board for some delicious Thanksgiving vegetable recipes you can try out this year.  Cranberry Pomegranate Bruschetta, anyone? Or beautiful Maple-Roasted Butternut Squash and Beets? It's all there!

The recipes section of this blog also has some delicious ideas. For example, use your leftover canned pumpkin to make a refreshing pumpkin smoothie. Or add color to your table by making some Roasted Rosemary Red Potatoes  or Roasted Asparagus.

No matter what's on your table or what's not, there is plenty to be thankful for. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
